CBS Radio made a recent decision to fire “Opie” and “Anthony”- aka (Greg Hughes and Anthony Cumia), the shock jocks of 92.3 K-Rock. Both the DJs have confirmed that their show is coming to an end. Apparently the new look of 92.3 will consist of “92.3 Now FM†as of 5 p.m. this Wednesday night, Billboard has confirmed. The switch from 92.3 K-Rock to 92.3 Now is being made to better target teen demographics in hopes that will create more listeners. Also they hope to appeal more to the 18-34 market. The station’s new focus is describing as “contemporary hit music.†The station already has a new Web site up with a countdown to Wednesday night.
That being said CBS is making a lot of changes to several radio stations all over the country. Last month, CBS announced plans to change its L.A. talk station, 97.1 KLSX, to a new top 40 format under the name “AMP RADIO.†The move resulted in on-air personality Adam Carolla losing his job, along with DJ Tom Leykis and other staff members. Needless to say, people were upset over the decision. Some people have mixed feelings about Leykis, but he had a lot of listeners. Some can simply do without him. I just hope that these executives actually are considering what the “people” actually want…….
